Wow. One of those rare instant-impact albums. I came to it the "wrong" way round, already familiar with Allison's outstanding Outside Child - one of the finest albums of the past 12 months. And it's in the same plane - albeit different from her solo masterpiece, though with many similar characteristics, such as on Travelers and Roisin Starchild. Love in Wartime hits so many peaks - in musicianship, lyrics, genres and especially melody.
